Dispensational Work of Jesus Christ
Let’s view His life from four perspectives
1. Old Testament 2. Gospels (earthly ministry) 3. New Testament (present time) 4. Kingdom (Millennial)
We know Jesus worked
in the creation.
Heb 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath
appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in
earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions,
or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made
that was made.
We know Jesus worked in the calling of Moses.
Exo 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou
say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
John 6:48 I am that bread of life.
John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the
world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light
of life.
John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham
was, I am.
John 15:1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Jesus is
the “I AM” of the Old Testament.
We know Jesus spoke
through the prophets.
1 Pet 1:11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was
in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and
the glory that should follow.
Tracing the genealogy of
Christ through Mathew (Mt. 1:1-10) we go back to Abraham -- Jewish roots
Tracing the genealogy of Christ through Luke (Lk. 3:23-38) we go back to Adam --
Physical roots
Tracing the genealogy of Christ through John (Jn. 1:1-2) we go back to God --
Divine existence
Jesus Christ was with God before the foundation of the world. His earthly body had not been formed yet. He is only begotten of the Father through Mary; the Holy Ghost must be a person to reproduce offspring.
Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
Jesus was in office as a
“PROPHET” during the gospels.
Deu 18:15 The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of
thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;
Deu 18:18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto
thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that
I shall command him.
God’s spokesman telling future events.
Heb 1:1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto
the fathers by the prophets,
Heb 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath
appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
Example: “..there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of
water,” Lk. 22:10
Example: “..and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when
thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money:” Mt. 17:27
Example: Mt. 24 with a host of signs preceding his public return
2nd Advent ( see study on the Millennium)
Not only as a prophet but as a sinless man Jesus Christ lived on earth. His
virgin birth exempted him for the polluted nature of fallen man. As a sinless
man he qualifies to atone for sin. (1 John 3:5 And ye know that he was
manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.)
Justice demanded a payment for sin and mercy provided it for us in the person Jesus Christ; the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world.
Spiritual death was abolished with “My God my God why hast thou forsaken me.”
Physical death was abolished with “It is finished.”
2 Tim 1:10 But is now made
manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death,
and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel: The
substitute death of Jesus Christ is illustrated with Barabbas.
Mat 27:26 Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus,
he delivered him to be crucified.
Jesus Christ was made a surety for our sin debt. Joined with Him he becomes the responsible bearer of what we owe. His atonement is not limited. His atonement is not universal. His atonement is applied to whosoever believeth.
Jesus is in office as a “PRIEST” now at the right hand of the Father. He is within the veil. He is making intercession for those that come to God by him. Heb 8:1 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;
He is also the Mediator. 1 Tim 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
He is the believer’s Advocate. 1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: We need an advocate because of our state. You know what it is like to live in Iowa? You need God’s help. Anywhere in this old sinful world you need God’s help.
Our standing as a child of
God is secure and unchangeable. Our state with the conflict of two natures can
be compared to the children of Israel.
1. In Egypt (type of the world) protected but in bondage.
2. In the wilderness (Egyptian side) longing for the leeks and former things.
They were yielding to their carnal desires.
3. In the land but battling the enemy.
Faith is the victory that overcomes the world. Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me... Live by the faith of the Son of God who loves you… The one who was and is and is to come.
Jesus will fill the office as a “KING” when he returns for his future dispensational office. (See study on the Millennium)
